A body has been found in the search for a former BBC editor who disappeared on New Year’s Eve after going out for a walk.

Aled Glynne Davies, 65, the former editor of BBC Radio Cymru, had been for a meal with his wife on December 31 before going for a walk just before midnight and not returning home.

In an Instagram post, his wife Afryl and children Gwenllian and Gruff said they were “heartbroken to announce” his body was found in a river on Wednesday.

South Wales Police said: “Officers searching for Aled Glynne (Davies) who went missing on New Year’s Eve in Pontcanna, Cardiff have recovered the body of a man in Cardiff Bay.

“Whilst formal identification has not yet taken place, we believe this to be Aled, whose family has been informed.”
